Visiting Leyland Orthodox church for the first time.

Just come to our church.

We frequently get people who want to visit the church and attend a service contact the priest to ask if this is ok. There is no need to ask please just come.

What time should I arrive?

The best first service to come to, is the Liturgy on a Sunday morning (every Sunday during the the year, other than Orthodox Easter Sunday)

The Sunday service starts at 10:30am and finishes at about 11:45am. There are toilets at church and we have tea and coffee in the church hall afterwards which is a good time to ask questions you may have about the Orthodox church.

What’s it like to be part of an Orthodox service?

We normally have enough chairs for everyone, but many people will stand for most of the service.

Generally people will always stand if they are able, when the priest comes out from the Iconostasis (the screen with pictures on at the front of the church) at various points during the service. Please put your phone on silent so as not to interrupt the service.

What do I need to wear?

There is no particular dress code other than maybe smart casual. However males over the age of 13 please wear trousers. Women please have shoulders covered, but there is no need to wear a head scarf or hat.

Is there a collection?

Yes during the service collection baskets will be brought round, gift aid is possible, but there is no expectation to make a donation if it is your first time visiting.

Can I receive Communion?

Receiving communion is the high point of the service, and only those who are

baptized Christians confirmed in the Orthodox faith who have suitable prepared themselves may receive communion.

However there is blessed bread (antidoron) given out at the end of the service which everyone can have visitors included.

We look forward to meeting you!
